Below is the calendar of events for the year 2020/2021 for the editorial committee. The events listed below are tentative and are subject to change from time to time

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS

This is a list of things I would like us to focus on in order to improve our publicity and relationships in the many medical schools we will work with. I did not really include dates.

Year activities

  • Medical Outreach Activities- Agape center (August) Medical Camps for community participation-In this, we can decide on certain individuals in the nearest medical school to coordinate it at the expected sites.
  • Use of awareness prints in our school halls educating on different health aspects for example proper hygiene measures to prevent diseases associated with contamination of food and water.
  • Health related campaigns on certain dates which are educative to community for example HIV prevention, immunization of newborns and family planning.

March 2020
8th International Women’s Day
Online campaign by IFMSA SCORA/SCORP Small Working Group
Take a stand campaign to be communicated later.
Endometriosis Awareness Month
24th SCORA to join in an event with Endometriosis Foundation of Kenya Courtesy of Elsie Wandera

May 2020
28th Menstrual Hygiene Day
All local chapters to have an outreach to public primary and high schools and conduct a menstrual hygiene management training and give out donations that will have been raised locally by them. This will possibly be a partnership between project RESPEKT and SCORA

July 2020
SCORA Twaweza Candle lit memorial ceremony. Venues will be determined as time goes by.

September 2020
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Awareness Month
Possible training of trainers on PCOS sponsored by PCOS Association of Kenya and thereafter local
workshops conducted by the local officers.

October 2020
World Contraceptives Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Local Chapters to organize contraceptives drive in their universities and breast cancer screening as well to commemorate both the World Contraceptives Day and Breast Cancer Awareness month. May be done in collaboration with project RESPEKT.

November 2020
16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence
National training conducted on Gender Based violence based on the theme which is yet to be announced.
May be done in collaboration with project RESPEKT.

December 2020
World AIDS Day
Online interactive session by a medical professional based on the theme of this year’s world AIDS day yet to be announced.
Online Campaigns
These will be taking the form of interactive discussions in the SCORA REPRO HEALTH SERIES where
many topics in SRHR will be addressed some of which will be;

  • The impact of COVID 19 on SRHR
  • COVID 19 and PLWHIV
  • The HPV Vaccine and emerging issues in Cervical Cancer
  • Sex Addiction
  • Breast Cancer
  • HIV/AIDS discrimination
  • GBV against men
  • Rape and post rape care
  • Contraceptives and STIs

In light of recent events and the COVID 19 pandemic SCORA National Committee will be having the
following online campaigns in form of the making and distribution of infographics;

April 2020;
Impact of COVID 19 on SRHR
Impact of pandemics on gender roles and gender inequality
The forms of Gender Based Violence during pandemics
COVID 19 and HIV and AIDS
COVID 19 and maternal and child health
Sexual Assault and Prevention Awareness Month

May 2020;
Menstrual Hygiene Management Awareness Campaign including menstrual disorders such as  Endometriosis and PCOS

June 2020;
Online campaign to commemorate the infertility awareness month

October 2020;
Online campaign across all campuses organized by the SWG for maternal health and safe abortion SWG
coordinated by the National Officer and General Assistant

November;
Take a stand campaign and educational videos during the 16 days of activism against GBV in accordance
to this year’s theme.

Others

  • To make a manual/toolkit on a guide to the work of Local Officers so that they are more conversant on how to effectively run their local chapters with the help of previous NORAs
  • To ensure more participation of the MSAKE SCORAngels in the international platform through
    the many SCORA Small Working Groups and numerous other activities.
  • To increase participation of local members in National online campaigns through developing
    infographics and educational videos.

SCOPH

The SCOPH National Committee proposes to do, among other things, the following:

  • Observation of each (Public) Health Day, with social media campaigns, community-based open
    activity, related training or webinar, where possible
  • Organize 2 SCOPH Retreats, dates of which will be communicated
  • Organizing certified topical trainings in partnership with well-established relevant organizations
  • Organizing community service events, like a visit to a home (children’s or that of the aged), or a
    hospital, or a prison, or anywhere, for sanitation, dietetics and/or themed sensitization campaign
  • Rolling out a Public Health Initiative with its activities being conducted on a rotational fashion at the various chapters/universities
  • Organize public health outreach projects both nationally and at the local chapter level, handling a
    common topic
  • Organize inter-chapter events and collaborations as will be identified periodically
